SJR Shock Spireites
SJR Worksop picked up what they said afterwards was “the biggest win in our women’s team history” when they won 3-2 away to Chesterfield on Sunday afternoon, in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division (image courtesy of Michael South Photography here).
Chesterfield, with a handful of ex-SJR players in their ranks, and who have aspirations of promotion to the National League, have been EMWRFL runners-up in each of the last two seasons, and are presently sitting in a familiar position; SJR meanwhile, having been promoted last season, moved up to fifth in the table following the win.
The visitors found themselves 2-1 up at the break, and, with twenty remaining that had been extended to 3-1; Emily Myatt had afforded the visitors the lead inside twenty minutes, Millie Standen equalising five minutes before the break.
Millie Clarke though had the last say in the first half, restoring SJRs one goal lead as the game went into the interval.
Laura Ferguson extended that advantage with a little over twenty minutes remaining as the visitors pushed for a famous win, Standen meanwhile was looking to have her own say in proceedings and she grabbed hers, and the hosts’ second of the afternoon, as the game ticked towards the final ten minutes.
SJR though, they held on for a 3-2 win, a reversal of the 3-1 loss Chesterfield had inflicted on SJR earlier in the season; victory for the visitors saw them move to within four points of their second-place hosts.

Victory for SJR was one of but a few highlights for Notts-based clubs, the only other being an away day success for Sherwood, in the EMWRFL Division One North, Grace Adeyinka’s hat-trick the highlight of a 4-0 win away to Belper Town.
The three Notts County sides all suffered defeat, and with neither scoring, the Development side losing heavily, 7-0, at home to Gainsborough Trinity, in the EMWRFL D1N, whilst both the Seniors and the Reserves, they suffered defeat in their respective, FA Women’s National League games, against Peterborough United.
The Seniors conceded three times in the final quarter of their Division One Midlands clash to lose 3-0 away, whilst the Reserves went down 2-0 away in the Reserves Midlands division.
Back in the EMWRFL Premier and another promotion hopeful, Mansfield Town, were held to a goalless draw when home to Stamford, whilst there were heavy home defeats for both Basford United, and Nottingham Trent University, the former losing 4-1 to Anstey Nomads, the latter against Rotherham United.
In D1 North the other results saw Arnold Eagles slip to a 2-0 loss against visiting Grimsby Borough.
A handful of games were also played in the Notts Girls & Ladies League Division One, Newark Town moving two points clear at the top after their 4-2 win away to Arnold Eagles Development.
Mansfield Town Development are into third place following their emphatic, 10-0 win, on the road at Retford, and Lowdham Colts won 3-1 at NTU Pink; the remaining game, between Blidworth Welfare and Hucknall Town, finished in a 2-2 draw.
At the top of the NGL Seniors One, it’s a tight affair; although Newark are currently leading by two, there’s just three points separating them, and fifth place University of Nottingham, who actually have a couple of games in hand, going into the second half of the league season.
The draw for the semi-finals of the Nottinghamshire FA Women’s County Cup semi-finals have also been made, the two ties as follows –
Arnold Eagles vs. Basford United; Notts County Reserves vs. Mansfield Town
