Newark RFC (image courtesy of Richie Laurent) are sitting nicely in sixth place in the Regional 2 Midlands North division following Saturday’s home win over Ilkeston, whilst there was also a big win for lowly Paviors, in the local dust-up with visiting Mellish, to maintain their hopes of pushing for the top seven.
In hosting Ilkeston, now six below them in the table, Newark enjoyed their afternoon, running in five tries, whilst the boot of Alex Scott added extra with three penalties, and two conversions.
The visitors played their part in the contest also, the hosts leading 19-12 at the interval thanks to tries from Ed Clayton, Will Ellison, and Ovidus Gilder, the latter with his first of the afternoon.
After the restart, Newark continued in the same vein, running in a couple of extra tries via Gilder’s second of the game, and James Tarbatt, they coming after Scott’s three penalties were kicked.
