Notts Win Against Worcester
Notts County’s two, FA Women’s National League sides, registered ten goals between them on Sunday afternoon, in a pair of high-scoring games that yielded a combined, sixteen goals.
In the Division One Midlands, County’s senior side picked up three points in a 5-2 win when home to Worcester City, the hosts continuing to hold on to sixth place.
The opening goal of the seven-goal contest arrived after just three minutes when defender Evelyn Brooks (pictured celebrating with team-mates, courtesy of Amelie Rudkin) found herself in a scoring position, lifting the ball over the visiting ‘keeper, for the hosts’ first of the afternoon.
Although the visitors equalised shortly after through Jasmin Springer, it would be County who’d take an interval lead, Emily Brett netting at the back post, both sides registering several efforts apiece throughout the half.
The opening twenty minutes or so of the second period however would see County run their lowly visitors ragged, netting three without reply.
A brace from striker, Shoniqua Barnes, had County 4-1 to the good just after the hour mark, her first coming within minutes of the restart having pounced onto a loose ball and slotting home, whilst the second came following a ball in over the City defence.
Five minutes after Barnes had notched her second of the game, the hosts were awarded a penalty when Leah Hardy stepped up to score the hosts’ fifth; with fifteen remaining City got another back, this time Chloe Bellamy netting.
With five games remaining, three of which are at home, County find themselves eleven points off third place Northampton Town, and thirteen off the joint-leaders, Loughborough Lightning, and Peterborough United.
