Tight At Top Of UCL North
There’s a four-way dance atop of the United Counties League Premier North right now, and three of those four are from our own county; Sherwood Colliery, Kimberley Miners Welfare and Newark Town all tied on 29pts, with fellow front-runners, Boston Town.
Granted, Sherwood and Kimberley have games in hand on Boston, who lead the race on goal-difference, it was a to be a mixed bag of results on Saturday afternoon as the former of the those won 3-2 at Debdale against visiting Ashby Ivanhoe, and the latter were beaten 1-0 away to Blackstones.
Harvey Grice’s hat-trick helped Newark Town into the mix as they won 3-2 away to Wisbech Town, whilst in fifth place, another Notts club, Hucknall Town, have put themselves on the fringes after they eased to a 4-0 win at Harrowby United, Joseph Ashurt’s late, second half brace, sealing the points.
AFC Mansfield also scored four, winning 4-2 against visiting Skegness Town, to strengthen their mid-table spot, Rhys Dolan bagging a quick-fire brace just after the half-hour mark, whilst there were defeats for both Eastwood CFC and Newark & Sherwood United.
Languishing at the opposite end of the table, Eastwood were beaten 3-1 at home to Melton Town and sit in seventeenth place, whilst Newark & Sherwood are second bottom following their 1-0 reverse to visitors Grantham Town.
Action aplenty in Division One as both Retford sides were held to 1-1 draws, the leaders against visiting Southwell City, whilst second place was at Clifton All Whites, Ahmed Tahar, Christopher Okoye, Michael Lindsey and Callum Orange with their sides’ respective goals.
Stapleford Town are in the play-off places, sitting fourth, having eased to a 3-0 home win over Pinchbeck United, whilst the games between Sandiacre Town and Holwell Sports, and Gedling miners Welfare and Dunkirk, also finished in 1-1 draws.
Radford saw off visitors Pinxton 2-0, Clipstone won 1-0 at home to West Bridgford, and Shirebrook Town were beaten 3-1 at Sleaford Town in the remaining games.
There was no run-outs for Basford United or Carlton Town in the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands, whilst in the National League North, Worksop Town slipped to a 2-1 loss at Telford United, Jordan Burrow netting for the Tigers midway through the first half.
Only a handful of games were played in the Central Midlands Alliance as Oliver Connor’s brace gave Worksop Town Reserves a 2-0 home win over Glapwell, with RHP Sports suffering a 4-1 loss at home to AFC Phoenix in the Premier North, whilst in the Premier South George Layton and Liam Taylor netted for Selston as they won 2-1 against visiting Holbrook St. Michaels, Linby Colliery Welfare were held to a 1-1 draw at Cromford & Wirksworth, and Mansfield Hosiery Mills were thumped 5-0 off visiting Melbourne Dynamo.
Cotgrave’s lead in the Notts Senior League Premier Division meanwhile stands at sevens points after their 1-0 win under the Friday Night Lights, against visiting Ruddington Village, Lee Potts with the only goal of the game.
On the Saturday meanwhile, Awsworth Villa went second after a 3-2 win at Dunkirk, and fourth place Collingham were held to a 1-1 draw against visiting Beeston.
Fifth-placed Bingham Town were one of three sides to net five goals, they doing so with a 4-0 home win against Arnold Town, Jacob Boyes bagging a hat-trick, seventh-placed Woodthorpe Park Rangers won 5-2 at Keyworth United in a game that saw seven different scorers, and Wollaton saw off their visitors, Aslockton & Orston, 5-1, Joshua Longley with a brace for the victors.
As for the other two games, Southwell City Reserves won 4-2 at home to Notts Olympic, and West Bridgford Reserves won 2-1 against visiting FC Cavaliers.
