Table Topping Carlton Hit Sutton For Five
Lamin Manneh and Ashley Chambers both netted twice as Northern Premier League Division One Midlands leaders, Carlton Town, put in a five-star performance when home to lowly Sutton Coldfield Town.
A second successive win was underway as early as the tenth minutes when Manneh opened the scoring; the visitors then created a handful of chances before a mistake at the back saw captain Niall Davie capitalise with the Millers’ second of the game.
A dominant first half showing from the leaders would see two further goals added at the end of the opening forty-five when first Chambers found the net, before Manneh doubled up in stoppage time, Carlton going in with a four-goal, interval lead.
The Millers moved further ahead within ten minutes of the restart when Chambers notched his second, and his sides’ fifth of the game, the visitors having to wait until stoppage time when Ayo Lekuti finished past Felix Annan when one-on-one.
Basford United meanwhile is third, seven points off the leaders, after a 1-1 draw away to Rugby Borough, Lynden Joyce snatching a share of the spoils with a 98th minute equaliser.
Meanwhile, in the National League North, Worksop Town slipped to a lone-goal defeat when home to Curzon Ashton, the visitors grabbing what proved the winner, in the closing minutes of the contest.
There was plenty of action in the United Counties League, Boston Town heading up the Premier North following their 1-1 draw away to mid-table Eastwood CFC, for whom Nyle Blake netted in the opening minutes, Layton Maddison levelling proceedings.
Sherwood Colliery sit second, a point behind, and with three games in hand on Boston, they easing to a 3-1 success at home to lowly Blackstones, Carter Widdowson’s first half double being added to by Jacob Pearce; AFC Mansfield defeated visiting Newark Town 5-1 as Ryan Ingram scored twice, and the game between Kimberley Miners Welfare and Newark & Sherwood United finished honours even, Finn Ryder and Luke White both netting second half penalties for their respective sides.
The top two in Division One played out a goalless draw, leaders Retford still boasting an eleven-point advantage, and a game in hand, on second place South Normanton Athletic; Stapleford Town are sitting third after a 1-1 draw at Dunkirk, with Retford United (match postponed) and Coalville Town, making up the top five in the division.
FCV Grace Dieu are sixth and were held to a 3-3 draw at home to Clipstone, Lewis Weaver’s second half brace, and one for Jack Thatcher, earning a share of the spoils, whilst West Bridgford picked up a 3-1 win away to Sandiacre Town, Elliot King netting twice for the victors.
Remaining results in the division saw Southwell City and Shirebrook Town share a 2-2 draw, Clifton All Whites were beaten 2-1 at Staveley Miners Welfare, and Gedling Miners Welfare were on the end of a seven-goal hammering away to Coalville Town.
Teversal’s recent return to firm continued in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier North, Tyron Macaskill’s twenty-eight-minute, first half hat-trick, helped his side to a 4-2 home win over RHP Sports.
Meanwhile in the Premier South, Selston are sitting second after their 3-1 win at home to fellow Notts club, Linby Colliery Welfare, Mansfield Hosiery Mills won by the same score when home to Mickleover Reserves, and Blidworth Welfare registered a 5-2 win away to Mickleover Athletic, Henry Eastgate with two, and Riley Barton on debut, among the scorers.
Two games were also played in the Buckingham Insurance League Challenge Cup, SJR Worksop progressing with a 2-0 win away to AFC Phoenix, whilst Ollerton Town were beaten 3-2 at Burngreave United.
As for the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division, Cotgrave have a thirteen-point advantage at the top following their 3-0 win away to second place Awsworth Villa, whom Bingham Town joined following their 6-3 success at Kimberley MW Reserves.
Fourth place Aslockton & Orston were held to a 1-1 draw at Beeston, whilst there were away wins for both Ruddington Village, 3-1 at FC Cavaliers, and for Southwell City Reserves, 3-0 at Wollaton, with Woodthorpe Park Rangers won 3-1 at home to Dunkirk.
The remaining game saw, on Friday night at West Bridgford, their reserves side on the end of a 4-2 defeat to visiting Arnold Town, for whom Gerrard Hallam notched a treble.
