Worksop Win In Warwickshire

Craig Parry’s Tigers recovered from four straight defeats to register their sixth league success of the season on Saturday afternoon, Worksop Town winning 2-1 away to bottom of the table Leamington.

With several changes in the Tigers squad of late, two of their latest, shot-stopper Lewis Forshaw, and striker Miracle Okafor, both made their debuts, but it was two of their long-serving stars who became match-winning heroes.

Despite being forced into an early change, the Tigers led midway through the first half when Vaughan Redford finished a move at the back post that saw Jordan Burrow’s header across goal, from Deegan Atherton’s pass hit the back of the net.

Leamington levelled proceedings on the stroke of half-time when Seb Thompson netted with a fine, solo effort; despite going in level at the break, the hosts were undone again early in the second with what proved to be the winning goal.

Aleksandrs Starcenko would be seen to take a corner that drifted over the home defence and reached Tigers captain, Hamza Bencherif, at the back post, he on-hand to tap home the decisive score.

Carlton Town holds a six-point advantage atop of the Northern Premier League Division One Midlands, they winning 3-2 away to mid-table Coventry Sphinx, whilst Basford United sit third after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Long Eaton United.

The Millers claimed another three points courtesy of goals from Huw Dawson, Niall Hylton, and match-winner, Lamin Manneh, whilst the Ambers will be disappointed with their draw as Ethan Stewart’s late goal looked to have given them maximum points, only for their visitors to snatch a share of the spoils deep into stoppage time.

Boston Town continues to lead the way in the United Counties League Premier North, a point ahead of second place Sherwood Colliery, who’ve a game in hand, after both won on Saturday.

The leaders picked up a narrow, 1-0 win, at home to visiting Kimberley Miners Welfare, who sit fifth, Matthew Coton’s stoppage time winner keeping their noses in-front, whilst second place Sherwood eased to a 4-0 home success over eighth place Hucknall Town thanks to goals from Jobe Shaw, Kieran Knight, William Norcross, and Destiny Wognin.

Newark Town is sitting third after they won 2-0 at home to Ashby Ivanhoe, Harry Allcock and Jack York with the goals, whilst Eastwood CFC are up to ninth following their 1-0 win at Melton Town, Jake Wright with the games’ only goal.

Of the games played in Division One, Retford United lead a host of sides attempting to close the gap on runaway leaders, Retford; the Badgers’ 3-0 home win over Shirebrook Town, goals from Joshua Eggington, Lewis Chambers, and Jack Warner, sees them ten adrift, ahead

of Coalville Town and South Normanton Athletic on goal-difference, and a point ahead of fifth place Stapleford Town.

Coalville won 3-2 at Clipstone, who netted through Tomas Fleet and Lewis Weaver, whilst Stapleford were thumped 6-0 at home off Staveley Miners Welfare; lowly Clifton All Whites won 2-1 at home to Sleaford Town, whilst Pinxton and Southwell City shared six goals, Christopher Okoye with a brace for the visitors.

There was no action involving Notts clubs in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier North/South due to the weather, whilst in the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division, a handful of games were played.

All three Premier games resulted in home wins, and with each netting three times apiece as Bingham Town sit second, ten off leaders Cotgrave, following their 3-2 win against West Bridgford Reserves, Kimberley MW Reserves moved third following a 3-1 win against Aslockton & Orston, who slipped to fourth, and Keyworth United sit tenth following their 3-2 win against Ruddington Village.

Pass Move Grin Excel lead a tight Division One on goal-difference following their 3-1 win at Gedling Southbank as Samson Abioye scored twice, they moving ahead of a Grantham Town Reserves side who lost 4-1 against visitors Stapleford Town Reserves for whom Elliot Harper bagged brace, four points separating the top five.

One point splits the top four in Division Two, Wollaton Reserves taking advantage of inactivity to move into the mix following a 3-0 home win over Beeston Reserves for whom Jericho Bonner scored twice, whilst Attenborough, second in Division Three, went on a goal spree at home to Nottingham Greens.

Lewis Caine helped himself to a double hat-trick in his sides’ 18-0 home win, Jamie Nisbet and George Pursglove scored three apiece, whilst there was doubles for Luke Smith and Daniel Whitham, and one apiece from Benjamin Hanford and Daniel Keegan-Okane.
