Forest See Off Wolves In Cup

Nottingham Forest Women reached the Fourth Round of this season’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup following Saturday lunch-times narrow, 2-1 win, against recent rivals, Wolverhampton Wanderers Women.

Victory over a Wolves side, containing several former Reds in Lyndsey Harkin, Charlotte Greengrass, Amy Sims, Becky Anderson and Louanne Worsey, now sees Carly Davies’ charges travel to the South Coast, and mid-table WSL side, Brighton & Hove Albion, in the next round.

The opening goal of the contest arrived early on, Wolves conceding a corner which Chloe Mustaki took well, and was met by Reds captain, Georgia Brougham, who put the ball past Alex Brooks.

One quickly became two when, fifteen minutes later Aimee Claypole doubled the Reds’ advantage when getting on the end of a Rachel Rowe through-ball, and slotting home, Forest holding their two-goal advantage into the break.

The second half was less than minutes when Wolves got back into the game, and another set-piece; Anna Morphet floated a free-kick into Forest’s box and Georgia Marshall headed past Emily Batty.

It was however, all the Black Country side could muster, the Reds claiming a 2-1 win, and with it, progression to the next round; Forest will travel to Dario Vidosic’s Brighton & Hove Albion on the weekend of 17/18 January 2026.

It’s a huge game for Davies charges next, Forest travelling to unbeaten leaders, Charlton Athletic (won seven, drawn three of ten), in their next WSL2 match, this coming Sunday 21 December.

Nottingham Forest – Emily Batty, Georgia Brougham (capt), Chloe Mustaki, Amy Rodgers, Aimee Claypole, Tove Almqvist (Jessica Stapleton, 70), Ebba Hed, Rachel Rowe, Nahikari Garcia (Deanne Rose, 70), Kirsty Smith (Caragh Hamilton, 70), Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah

Elsewhere in the local, women’s football scene, a number of clubs were in action in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League, with SJR Worksop collecting a 2-1 home win against Gainsborough Trinity in the Premier Division.

Goals from Millee Clarke and Beth Gingell gave SJR another three points, with their current position in the table a little bit of a false one due to they have three-four games in hand on sides above them, and are just six points off fourth place Mansfield Town.

Nottingham Trent University picked up their fifth win in an unbeaten start to the Division One Central campaign, easing past visiting West Bridgford Colts, 3-0, goals coming via Sarah Newton (2) and Fiona Mills. The win sees NTU a point behind leaders Asfordby Amateurs, also unbeaten, and with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Basford United’s poor start shows no sign of stopping, sitting second bottom of the Central, and with sides around them having games in hand, fell to a 6-1 loss at home to Melbourne Dynamo, for whom Chelsie Tebble bagged a hat-trick.

As for the three sides in action in Division North, they all suffered defeat; third place Arnold Eagles fell to a 3-0 loss away to leaders Grimsby Town Academy, who’ve won eight-from-eight, sixth place Notts County Development were beaten 2-1 at home to Lincoln United Development, and seventh place Newark Town fell in an eight-goal thriller, 5-3 away to second place Dronfield Town.
