Notts Win Fourth Match On The Bounce

Goals from Alassana Jatta and Matthew Dennis, who’ve netted the majority of the Magpies goals of late, helped Martin Paterson’s Notts County side to another, 2-1 win on Saturday afternoon.

Away to mid-table Fleetwood Town, the promotion hopeful visitors netted a goal in each half to continue recent momentum that sees them having won their last four outings, three of which have been by the same score.

The deadlock was broken in the closing stages of the first half when Oliver Norburn and Jodi Jones combined on the left, the latter putting a low cross into the box and Jatta, with his fourth goal in four games for the Magpies, netted at the back post.

Town equalised just after the hour mark when Will Davies’ turned and finished well from a Matt Helm through-ball. However, the visitors restored their lead just five minutes later when two of Paterson’s changes combined.

Lee Ndlovu, a recent signing from National League side Barnet, collected a dinked pass from Norburn and rolled in fellow substitute, Matthew Dennis (on for Tom Iorpenda) to net what proved the winner, and another three points.

County even had a great chance to extend their advantage minutes later, Jay Lynch saving a thunderous effort from another second half sub, Maziar Kouhyar, but Jatta and Dennis had done enough.

NOTTS COUNTY (vs. Fleetwood): James Belshaw, Lewis Macari, Matthew Platt, Jacob Bedeau (capt), Nick Tsaroulla (Lucas Ness, 79), Oliver Norburn, Tyrese Hall (Scott Robertson, 46), Jodi Jones (Maziar Kouhyar, 61), Tom Iorpenda (Matthew Dennis, 61), Conor Grant, Alassana Jatta (Lee Ndlovu, 61)

Prior to victory over Fleetwood, Jatta had also netted in the wins over Crawley Town, Crewe Alexandra, and Swindon Town, as he continues to help fire his side to the top of League Two.

Crawley were beaten 2-1 in mid-January courtesy of goals from Jones and Jatta, the latter netted the only goal as County welcomed Crewe to Meadow Lane on 24 January, before this past midweek, Jatta and Dennis netted as visitors Swindon were also beaten 2-1 last time out.

Those results have Paterson’s charges sitting fifth in the table, on 51pts, and level pegging with the MK Dons, whilst they are presently just a couple of points off second place Cambridge United.

Next up for Notts County, a home game with fourteenth place Gillingham, this Tuesday (3 February) night, kick-off 19:45.
