Reds Bolster Both Ends

Nottingham Forest Women have signed Joy Omewa and Rebekah Dowsett on loan until the end of the 2025/26 season.

The duo are expected to become a prominent feature within Carly Davies’ side, who will be looking to bolster her squad in hopes for a promotion push in the Women’s Championship.

The first of the signings came on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, as Nottingham Forest announced the signing of forward Joy Omewa.

Omewa joins the Reds from Fortunia Hjørring in the Danish Kvindeligaen league, where she proved to be a dangerous threat.

The Nigerian international enjoyed a five-year stint with Fortunia Hjørring, in which she scored over 50 goals, before going on to life the Danish Women’s Cup twice, and the Kvindeligaen league title in 2024/25.

Her cabinet of accolades doesn’t stop there; she was also awarded the Player of the Season during the same season.

“Joy’s incredible goal-scoring prowess speaks for itself,” said Davies, manager of Nottingham Forest Women.

“She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to find the net consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad.”

On an international stage, Omewa has worked her way through the Nigerian youth camps, before making her senior debut for Nigeria in 2025.

The 23-year-old featured in the Super Falcon’s victory against Benin to secure their qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Upon signing, Omewa added: “I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be a part of this team.”

Following in the footsteps of Omewa, Rebekah Dowsett also signed for Nottingham Forest on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper joins the Reds from Women’s Super League side West Ham United.

Dowsett made her senior debut for Watford at just 16-years-old, before departing the club to join Leicester City on a short stint.

However, her move to the Midlands was cut short as she returned to Watford on a dual-registration deal with West Ham in July, 2025.

She went on to make 11 appearances across all competitions, keeping six clean sheets.

In addition to this, the shot-stopped also joined the Professional Game Academy (PGA) in the summer, before going on to sign her first professional contract with West Ham in January 2026.

Dowsett’s arrival on Trentside has left a few questions hanging in the air, as fans begin to question Carly Davies’ squad rotation.

The Reds’ first-choice keeper, Emily Batty, has featured in 17 games throughout the 2025/26 season, across all competitions.

However, Georgie Ferguson has only featured once this season, against Newcastle United in the Subway League Cup.

Fans argue that there are many a game in which rotation would’ve been beneficial for Nottingham Forest, with the most recent being their game against Sheffield United in the Women’s Super League 2.

Oliver Betts-Richards, co-founder of the Forest Women Fancast, said: “Georgie played excellently in the one game she’s played this season, and barely put a foot wrong in the cup matches she played in 2024/25.

“She deserved a shot at being played in our cup games.

“It’s similarly not clear to me why we’ve signed Rebekah Dowsett on a short-term loan, unless Carly has given up on Emily and Georgie (a prospect that could leave us without a goalkeeper when the girls come back after their summer break).”

The addition of Dowsett throws in another goalkeeper for rotation, but the question still stands as to when we will see a new face gracing the goal for Nottingham Forest.
