Grace Firing For Magpies

Having joined Notts County from Gainsborough Trinity Community in the summer, free-scoring forward, Grace Jones, continued her fine form for the clubs’ reserves side with another brace this past weekend.

It’s been a busy campaign for Jones, turning out mainly for the first team in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, scoring once in her eighteen appearances, after a big step up from the East Midlands Regional Division One.

With the Reserves however, Jones has played in three games, against West Bridgford Colts (County Cup), Doncaster Rovers Belles Reserves, and, on Sunday, Hull City Reserves, another brace continuing her reserves average of two goals per game.

Despite her side struggling at the bottom end of the Reserves Northern Division, a 4-1 win away to Hull City Reserves would see County move level with their hosts on nine points, County looking to finish the season strong.

Jones would net a brace for County’s second string, and was joined on the scoresheet by Aurelia Burdett and Chloe Newens, with back-to-back home games, against Belles Reserves and AFC Fylde Reserves, left to play.

Meanwhile, in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division, Mansfield Town continued their push to the top with a comfortable, 4-0 win at home to Gainsborough Trinity (who Grace Jones had helped to promotion last season).

A strong, first half showing from Mansfield saw them three goals to the good at the break, Katie Platts’ brace alongside one from Ainsley Allan seeing the hosts comfortable.

Allan added her second, and Mansfield’s fourth in the second half to wrap up the win, and another three points which sees them just three points off third place Rotherham United (with three games in hand).

Although Andi Bell’s charges are in double figures off the top two of Chesterfield (first) and Loughborough Foxes Vixens (second), they do have four games in hand, with trips to both still to navigate, as well as League Cup and County Cup outings for added ‘pressure.’

In the other Premier Division game, SJR Worksop were involved in an eight-goal thriller away to Wellingborough Town, a battle of the divisions bottom two; Rachael Bell, Millee Clarke, Chelsea Bailey, and Leah Hardy all netted for the visitors in an entertaining, 4-4 draw, although Lee Scott’s charges disappointed that they let the win slip at the death.

Action across Division One saw Nottingham Trent University move level on points atop the Central division after their 3-2 win at third place Long Eaton United, and bottom club Sherwood claimed their first point of the season, at the ninth time of asking, following their 2-2 draw at Coalville Town Ravens, Charlotte Sims and Sophie Williamson netting.

As for those in the North, Arnold Eagles strengthened second place with a 5-1 home win over Dronfield Town, goals from Hannah Daniel (2), Holly Gibson, Natasha Leach and Harley

Scott keeping them ahead of Chesterfield Community, who won 4-3 at home to Notts County Development.

The remining North game saw Lincoln United Development and Newark Town share six in a 3-3 draw, with Newark a point ahead of their hosts at the foot of the table, although having played three more.

Two of the top three in the Notts Girls & Ladies League Seniors One clashed in the League Cup semi-final, hosts Calverton Miners Welfare edged a 4-2 win, whilst the only league game played saw mid-table Radcliffe Olympic win 2-1 at bottom club NTU Pink.
