Notts Return To Red Ball Action
After two more wins last week helped Notts to the top of the Vitality Blast North Group Table with 17 points from 11 games played, the green and golds again donned white yesterday for their return of ‘County Cricket’ as the four-day team welcomed Derbyshire to Trent Bridge.
In Blast action on Thursday Notts beat Leicestershire by 6 wickets as they chased down 154 to win with a couple of overs to spare. Calvin Harrison and Luke Fletcher had already starred with the ball taking three wickets a piece before a 48 from Ben Slater and a superb 63 not out by Samit Patel helped the Outlaws surpass the Foxes target with four wickets and nineteen balls still spare.
A day later Notts were even quicker to see off Birmingham Bears, on Friday night at Edgbaston the visitors raced to 177 with openers Ben Duckett (39) and Alex Hales (34) wasting no time to make an opening stand of 72.
Samit Patel again on fine form scoring 41 from 30 balls to set a tough but chasable amount, Birmingham however were not at the races, dismantled by Jake Ball and Calvin Harrison who both took four wickets, Patel with the other two as the hosts were bowled out for just 63.
That sets up a break period from white ball cricket with Nottinghamshire in perfect position to go through to the Quarter Final stage, concentration now on their LV= Insurance County Championship campaign, currently sitting in third in Group One, Notts yesterday were frustrated by the weather as Derbyshire managed 91/5 but after bowling out the visitors overnight, now face batting themselves with a target of 149 to surpass and you can watch all of the play on the Trent Bridge website here.
