Outstanding Outlaws Can Get Better
Notts Outlaws take on Derbyshire Falcons tonight as the green and golds aim to win their sixth successive Vitality Blast T20 match having already cemented their place in the Quarter Finals in a competition they won as recently as 2017.
The Outlaws who also made finals day last season before losing to Worcestershire by one run in the semi at Edgbaston, beat Derbyshire last week and return to Trent Bridge tonight in a bid to do the double over the Phantoms before taking on Leicestershire at Grace Road on Friday night and Durham back at the Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Nottinghamshire currently top the North Group with 12 points from 7 games and are in prime position with three games left to get a home match up at Trent Bridge in the last eight with the winners of the group granted a home tie in the competitions next stage.
Notts have been in terrific form with the bat with the competitions best run-rate so far as the likes of Alex Hales, Joe Clarke and Ben Duckett have regularly delivered with four day captain Steven Mullaney telling the Trent Bridge website “We all buy into the flexibility of the batting order.”
“Some days it means you get your opportunity, other days it’s somebody else’s turn – but if that contributes to us winning games, I don’t think anybody’s bothered.”
Mullaney said “We’ve batted really well at the top of the order and because of that, when anyone further down the order has come in, they’ve been able to stay on the front foot.”
“That’s something we set out to do in this competition, so it’s pleasing that it’s come off, but the best thing is that we still feel we can get better.”
“To be top of the table and still feel there’s room to improve our batting, bowling and fielding is a great place to be.”
Notts who beat Derbyshire by 13 runs on Sunday will pick from the following 13 man squad tonight: Jake Ball, Matthew Carter, Zak Chappell, Dan Christian, Joe Clarke, Ben Duckett, Alex Hales, Tom Moores, Steven Mullaney, Chris Nash, Samit Patel, Peter Trego, Imad Wasim.
The fixture will be live from 6pm and streamed on the Trent Bridge website.
