Maynard Makes Way As Two Come In
Nicky Maynard has moved to Newport County on loan following a busy deadline day for Mansfield Town who saw incomings for Wolves Goalkeeper Jamie Pardington and Blackpool striker Oliver Sarkic yesterday.
34-year-old Maynard scored four times this season in 21 matches for the Stags after netting 15 in all competitions last season but has since fallen down the pecking order of Nigel Clough’s side and heads back to South Wales for the first time since a spell at Cardiff City between 2012-15.
Clough stating on his departure “Nicky wanted an opportunity to go and challenge for first team football and this move also gives him the opportunity to earn a contract somewhere for next season”
On signing 6ft5in Goalkeeper Pardington, Clough stated of the 20-year-old “We wanted another goalkeeper to come in to give us some cover and Jamie fits the bill.”
“We don’t have anyone between Aidan Stone and 17-year-old goalkeeper Maison Campbell.”
“We needed someone in that age bracket to come in and train with the first team and we’re pleased to have Jamie on board.”
Finally on capturing Blackpool striker Sarkicc, a 23-year-old Montenegro International born in Grimsby, with former clubs including Benfica, Leeds United and Burton Albion, Clough said “We know Ollie from his time at Burton and he’ll provide us with a good option, playing anywhere across the front three.”
“He’s not played too much at Blackpool so he’s raring to go. He has quality and pedigree. He’s a skilful player and is different to what we have in those forward three positions, and that was the main reason for bringing him in.”
Mansfield take on Bolton Wanderers later today in a 7pm kick off at the One Call Stadium whilst the match with Walsall, postponed at the weekend due to a snow shower waterlogging the pitch prior to kick off, has now been arranged for Tuesday 9th February.
