Hameed Signs For Notts

Talented England batsmen Haseeb Hameed has signed for Nottinghamshire on a two year deal after his release from Lancashire in the summer.

The 22 year smashed his way into the first class scene in 2015 making a century for his county as a teenager and alerting the international side with an average over 40. He became the youngest player to score 1,000 runs in a season for Lancashire and was named in the 2016 Test squad for the tour of Bangladesh before making his international test debut against India where he scored over 50.

In three tests for England he’s averaged 43.80 but a subsequent loss of form has seen Hameed drop away from international recognition and slide out of Lancashire contention but with his surprising release many clubs were still interested which is a testament to the undeniable potential he has.

After fending off competition from Worcestershire among others Notts are delighted with the capture of the Bolton born right-hander with Coach Peter Moores confident the youngster can recapture his form of old stating “Haseeb’s approach is patient, methodical and based on crease occupation. They’re old-fashioned virtues in many ways, but they’re completely relevant to the modern-day game and exactly what we need to help us get better.”

Habeeb said upon his move south ““I’m very excited to be joining Nottinghamshire and playing  my cricket at Trent Bridge,”

“A special mention to Mick Newell and Peter Moores at Notts for believing in me. I can’t wait to get started.”

“This is a new chapter in both my life and career and I’m full of excitement to start working with my new teammates and helping get Notts back up to Division 1 where they belong.”
