Carlton Town 1-2 Matlock Town (FA Trophy First Qualifying Round) 30.10.20
Northern Premier League South East Division leaders Carlton Town were knocked out of the FA Trophy at the First Qualifying Round stage by Matlock Town in last night’s re-arranged fixture at Stoke Lane.
The home side were previously unbeaten in six having won their last four matches but Matlock of the Division above were always likely to be tough opposition and it proved so as the away side came away with the victory that sees them and not Carlton face Ashton United in the next round.
Carlton went a goal behind on 25 minutes when Jordan Sinnott slotted home a penalty and two minutes later were further behind after Luke Hinsley slotted home a rebound to give the away side a comfortable half time lead.
The Millers however came out strong in the second half and pulled one back through Tyler Blake on 69 minutes but despite dominating the latter stages couldn’t find an equaliser that would have taken the game to a replay in Derbyshire.
Carlton now face a trip to Glossop North End in league action this Saturday with the club looking to get back on with their promotion push.
