Nottingham McDonald’s Hoods were beaten by Worthing Thunder in yesterdays National Basketball League Division One tie at the Wildcats Arena with the Hoods now 12th in the 14 team table on one win from seven in the countries second tier.
The Hoods found things tough from the start against a side pushing in the top half and by the first timeout the home team found themselves 6-14 down and dominated in the first quarter which ended 13-31.
The second quarter went much of the same way with another 13 points scored met by 29 conceded and Worthing had a half time lead of 34 points as they headed the tie 26-60 at the break.
A fightback quarter by the Hoods saw Victor Olarerin slam dunk not once but twice before hitting a further two which brought the scores back to 42-68 but Worthing once again shifted gears and pulled away to a 40 point lead by the end of the third quarter at 52-92.
The final quarter was a precession but Olarerin continued to show his qualities scoring 24 points in game total with 2 rebounds for the Hoods, Laurits Juffer netted 19 points on the night with 14 rebounds with a player energy efficiency rating of 22.
The final score was Hoods 74 Thunder 111 with Olarerin home team MVP for his impressive performance.
Better news in Division Three action for Nottingham Trent University Hoods as they beat Bury St Edmunds Bulldogs 90-79 whilst the U16’s lost at Leicester Blaze on Saturday the under 14’s beat Leicester Riders II 77-35.
Elsewhere on Saturday Nottingham Trent University Women were beaten by Team Solent Kestrels 68-63 in the NBL First Division whilst Mansfield Giants were beaten at Sheffield Sabres 82-77 in the men’s Third Division Midlands.
