Stags Visit Struggling Mac
Mansfield take on Macclesfield Town at Moss Rose on Saturday with the Silkmen having been in the headlines for the wrong reasons this week after a misconduct charge by the Football League following the late payment of their players who went on strike forcing the side to field youth and loan players during a 4-0 FA Cup loss to non league Kingstonian last weekend.
The club are still in turmoil over who will play to face Mansfield this weekend which doesn’t help the Stags in preparation but Assistant Manager at Field Mill Lee Glover isn’t phased stating “There has been an upturn over the last six or seven weeks in our performance levels and we’ve picked up some points. There is a good feel about the group.”
He stated “It’s a terrible situation for the club and the players (at Macclesfield)”
“I can imagine it’s very difficult for all the staff at a football club when they’re not getting paid.
“There will be people working in the background of that club that aren’t getting paid – it’s a very difficult situation for everyone.”
“We can’t affect what’s going on at that club – we can only focus on ourselves. We’ve won a couple of games on the bounce and we want to go for three.”
“Being brutally honest and with all due respect, it doesn’t matter what side they play because we need to get ourselves right.”
The Stags will be almost full strength with Danny Rose back amidst the goals midweek and captain Krystian Pearce is back in contention for selection after returning to training this week following a groin injury but Hayden White is still out longer term.
The Stags are in 14th a place above Macclesfield and level on points having played a game more but John Dempster’s men have won three of their last four matches whilst Darryl McMahon’s team in comparison have lost in each of their last four.
Tickets are still available for those wanting to travel with adult seating prices at £22 and concessions from £3-£17 whilst standing prices are £15 adults with 600 tickets available to Mansfield Town.
