In yet another weather affected weekend Worksop Town did manage to get their game at Sandy Lane under way on Saturday as the Tigers beat high flying Cleethorpes Town in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East by four goals to one.
Lee Hill opened the scoring for Worksop on 26 minutes before the experienced Craig Mitchell headed home just three minutes later with the home side two up at the break.
A couple of minutes into the second half and ‘Mitch’ was at it again as the bearded striker poked home to put the Tigers 3-0 up and as the mist rolled in and the skies darkened it was Lyton Karkach who slid home a fourth for the eleventh placed North Notts outfit as Cleethorpes despite a goal in the closing minutes through Robertson slipped to fourth a place below Carlton Town who’s game against Loughborough was postponed.
As the hugely anticipated FA Vase local derby game between AFC Mansfield and Newark Flowserve was postponed (until this Tuesday night) the only NCEL action involving Notts clubs was at Retford as ‘FC’ beat East Hull 5-1 thanks to two Will Tomlinson goals a brace by Shay Evans-Booth and one from Adam Scott.
Ollerton’s hard luck with games continues as for the third time this season they had a match abandoned during play after a Skegness Town player was injured with the scores at 1-1 with just five minutes of the game remaining.
In the Midland Football League Selston’s match at Tividale was postponed, the team have now had back to back postponement and have played just once in the league since the 24th October languishing second bottom but with five games in hand on the team above them Lye Town.
In the East Midlands Counties League Eastwood Community went top of the division over Hucknall Town who didn’t play. Eastwood beat Gedling Miners Welfare 3-2 whilst West Bridgford drew 2-2 with Teversal and in the only other game to beat the weather Kimberley Miners Welfare drew with Rainworth Miners Welfare 1-1.
