Notts County have been awarded a home tie in the second round of the Buildbase FA Trophy as the Magpies will take on the winner of Sutton United or Dagenham & Redbridge who replay tonight.
Notts beat Chesterfield 1-0 on Saturday to reach the next stage whilst Sutton drew with Dagenham 1-1 and will replay at the Victoria Stadium this evening to find out who will be making their way up to Meadow Lane in the next stage.
Saturday’s victory didn’t come without pain for Notts who lost both midfielder Jim O’Brien and goalkeeper Sam Slocombe to injury with Manager Neal Ardley stating “Sam just went to catch an innocuous ball and felt his groin as he went to the ground whilst O’Brien has got an eight-inch gash right down the middle of his thigh and it’s deep.”
Likely news is that both will miss out this weekend but O’Brien at least should return to action soon whilst Ross Fitzsimons could replace Solcombe with Ardley stating “I’ve had a good chat with Ross about his situation. He’s obviously disappointed that he’s been left out of the team and both physically and mentally he hasn’t got himself in the right place.”
“We’ve got to get him back to being hungry and chasing Sam down for the number-one shirt. Hopefully we’ll get him champing at the bit now.”
Notts now concentrate on league action with five games ahead of the FA Trophy clash on the 11th January 2020 having played Sutton twice already this season both ending in a 1-1 draw should they face Dagenham a repeat of the 2-0 league win at Meadow Lane back in October will be very much appreciated.
