Wood Aiming For Golden Contract
MTK Global have announced the semi finals for the Golden Contract featherweight tournament which involves Nottingham born boxer Leigh Wood.
The event includes some of the country’s finest young boxers and will be held at London’s iconic York Hall on February 21st 2020 involving two divisions the featherweights and super-lightweights over an action packed evening of knockout boxing where the winners of each match up will reach the final with a chance to secure a lucrative contract at the end of it.
Leigh Wood’s opponents in the last four will be from Ryan Walsh, Tyrone McCullagh and Jazza Dickens with the winners facing a final showdown later in the year with the chance to join the likes of Tyson Fury, Carl Frampton, David Price and Billy Joe Saunders under MTK’s management.
Last time out Wood beat the previously unbeaten David Oliver Joyce in the Quarter Finals with a 9th round stoppage and with a 23-1 record himself will be considered as one of the favourites to progress to a final place.
The 31 year old Gedling based boxer is the Commonwealth Champion and WBO European Featherweight title holder and is rated by the WBO as the eighth best in the world although potential opponent Ryan Walsh (25-2-2) is currently third on that list whilst Northern Irish boxer Tyrone McCullagh is unbeaten with 14 wins from 14 fights and Jazza Dickens has the most fights under his belt winning 28 of his 31 with 3 losses to his name.
