Eastwood Through In County Cup
Eastwood Community are through to the fourth round of the Nottinghamshire Senior FA Cup after beating AFC Dunkirk 5-1 at the Ron Steel Sports Ground.
The Red Badgers made five changers after Saturday’s defeat at Sherwood Colliery with new signing Mark Rathbone in goal after joining from Belper United.
It didn’t take long for the away team to take the lead when Ben Gowing headed home a Matt Antcliff cross on nine minutes and Eastwood were 2-0 up on 26 when Gowing robbed the goalkeeper to finish from a tight angle.
A minute into the second half Antcliff got on the scoresheet running onto Paddy Webb’s forward pass before Dunkirk pulled one back on 47 with a header deflected home.
Webb made it 4-1 however finishing on the rebound from David Leak’s well saved header before Gowing finished things off with his hat-trick on 71 minutes after good work again from Antcliff.
Eastwood go into the last sixteen draw with Newark Town amongst others after Newark beat Awsworth Villa 3-2 to go through last night. Ties still to be played include the rescheduled Arnold Town v Southwell City and Bingham Town against Ashland Rovers which will be played on Saturday.
The next stage of the competition includes for the first time in many years teams from Nottingham Forest and Notts County with the seeded sides including holders Basford United entering the competition at the fourth round.
