Transfer Deadline Day
Although it only really effects the top divisions in English football (those below the top four leagues can still transfer players outside of the January window up until April) it is always an exciting time of year for us soccer fans with Sky Sports news showing live last minute shopping frenzy built upon by desperate Managers and Chairmen looking for a bargain to appease their fans.
As predicted Nottingham Forest have been busy and have added the highly rated Swede Julian Larsson to their shopping basket after the 18 year old signed from AIK earlier today.
All going well Larsson will play at best for the Academy team and U23’s for the remainder of the season, seen as a long term prospect he won’t ‘yet’ trouble the first team squad but will certainly be seen as a positive investment for the fans who have earlier this week (and month) seen the likes of Gaetan Bong, Nuno Da Costa and Adama Diakhaby join the reds promotion push.
There’s been plenty out too. Not many were sad to see the back of Claudio Yacob or Costel Pantilimon but Jack Robinson and Chema Rodriguez were always useful in their capacity within the squad.
Today Luke Steele returned to Millwall on loan whilst Tyler Walker ended a really good spell at Lincoln City returning with 14 league one goals under his belt.
Mansfield Town have also added this month with Kelland Watts signing on loan from Newcastle United whilst Goalkeeper Conrad Logan has signed for Forest Green Rovers until the end of the season.
The Stags earlier this week brought in Joe Riley from Plymouth Argyle with former Everton midfielder Harry Charsley signing from Everton already looking like being a cracking addition to the team.
Much quieter in transfer activity this month have been Notts County although they did snap up the astute looking acquisition of Cal Roberts from Blyth Spartans. Going the other way went Nathan Tyson and Ross Fitzsimons on loan to Chesterfield although the latter returned following an injury to first choice keeper Sam Slocambe.
Northern Premier League outfit Basford United have also been busy with a transfer deadline day deal of their own. United have signed Tyrese Sinclair on loan from Mansfield whilst James Carvell has been loaned out to Belper Town with Jamie Walker moving to Newark Flowserve until the end of the season.
