Newark Town will face Notts County in the Quarter Finals of the Notts Senior FA Cup after convincingly beating Kimberley Miners Welfare at Bowbridge Road last night.
The ‘peaceful warriors’ cruised to a 5-0 win thanks to a Lewis Chambers hat-trick and will now take on a Notts side who beat AFC Mansfield last month for a place in the last four.
It will be a repeat of the 1935/36 final when Notts beat Newark 5-2 after extra time to lift their eleventh and last to date County Cup final trophy.
Newark’s speedy winger Lewis Chambers scored after just three minutes to put the Central Midlanders 1-0 up against Kimberley who ply their trade in the East Midlands Counties Football League (a step above in the football pyramid).
In a finely contested first half the home team took a slender advantage in at the break but from there things would be very much one sided.
After half time Newark netted again through Chambers on 52 before George Asplin made it three just two minutes later and a minute after the hour it became a rout as Tyler Martin made it four.
Town who are top of the Central Midlands North Division by eleven points then added a fifth and final goal on 75 through Daryl Price to set up what will be a memorable match against magnificent full time opponents in Notts County.
Elsewhere last night in the BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division Worksop Town were beaten at home 2-1 by Matlock Town.
Selston who travelled to Tividale in the Midland Football League lost by the same scoreline whilst Ashland Rovers beat Arnold Town 3-2 in the Central Midlands South Division to move to eleventh in the table.
