Manchester Storm 4-3 Nottingham Panthers (Elite League) 12.02.20
The Nottingham Panthers returned to the ice last night after the Olympic break but could only take a point from their game in Manchester after a shootout loss.
Sam Herr started the scoring for the Panthers little after seven minutes play, his 50th point of a magnificent season so far but Storm levelled through Samuelsson just over a couple of minutes later as Manchester capitalised on a powerplay.
The homeside went in at the end of the first period with a 2-1 lead after Melton netted but Herr quickly levelled into the second as the game stayed tied until under a minute left when Melton again took full advantage of a Storm powerplay to slash home.
Both sides had chances in the third with Manchester unable to take advantage of Nottingham a man light as the visitors killed an early penalty and with little under eight minutes remaining it was all square again as Matheson this time slashed a one timer during a Panthers powerplay after good work from Talbot & Hansen.
With the game tied overtime couldn’t produce a goal so it went to the shootout with Talbot missing first for the Panthers as Fawcett netted to give home advantage. The next six penalties were missed but Herr scored Nottingham’s last leaving Ulmer needing to score for Storm to take the extra point which he did.
For Nottingham no biggie, the Panthers are fourth in the table a point behind Belfast in third with a game in hand but well within the playoff zone whilst for Manchester, a much needed two points as they take up the last playoff slot now three points above Dundee in ninth.
Next up for Panthers this Friday is bottom of the table Fife at the Motorpoint Arena for a Valentines night celebration of Ice Hockey. Can’t wait for kiss cam.
