AFC Mansfield have signed hot shot forward Matt Sykes in what looks to be a positive capture for the Northern Counties East League Premier Division side.
Matt Chatfield’s team struggled for large parts of the 2019/20 season finishing in 16th spot prior to lockdown closure but the Bulls drew more times than any other team bar Penistone and Silsden and the extra goals that Sykes provides might help convert single points into wins.
Sykes last season hit nine goals in 18 appearances for fellow league rivals Yorkshire Amateurs and the season before smashed home 32 goals for Worksop Town en-route to winning the division.
Having already endured a brief spell at the Forest Town Arena in 2017 Sykes stated the clubs ‘ambition’ as one of the main reasons for re-joining, stating “Out of everyone I spoke to, AFC came across as the most positive, plus I know a few of the lads which I feel is important to helping me settle in.”
“I’m really delighted to get the deal over the line.”
“I spoke to the manager and his enthusiasm and ambition for the team was brilliant, together with the Chairman I think they will be brilliant people to play for.”
Sykes joins winger Lynton Karkach as the clubs second major signing of the summer after the 23-year-old wide man also returns to the Bulls having had a spell at Worksop Town.
