Mansfield Town defender Joe Riley has extended his contract at the club until June 2021.
The right sided full back initially signed from Plymouth Argyle in January until the end of the 2019/20 season but after some solid and impressive performances, Riley has done enough to impress Manager Graham Coughlan in his short spell at the Stags to cement him down for another season at Field Mill.
Coughlan said “Joe is a solid and reliable professional who sets and maintains high standards. He fits into an honest and hard-working environment and is someone who encourages the younger players.”
His Manager also praised Riley’s individual qualities as a footballer stating “Joe delivers a great ball and defends solidly, and also has a promotion on his CV.”
The 28 year-old has made just six league appearances for the Stags since signing from Plymouth where he played for a year and a half following a spell at Shrewsbury.
The Salford born star who has played mostly as a wing back under Coughlan started out at Bolton Wanderers playing three times in the Premier League before moving to Bury after a spell on loan at Oxford United.
After promotion with Bury from League Two in 2015 Riley played a season in League One before moving to Shrewsbury Town moving to Plymouth in 2018 before joining the Stags.
More than happy with securing a further 12 months at Mansfield, Riley already looking towards the 2020/21 campaign stated “Delighted to extend my stay, let’s have a season to remember”.
