Stags Beaten In Posh Friendly
Mansfield Town 0-2 Peterborough United (Friendly) 11.08.20
Mansfield Town were back in action earlier today with a midday kick off behind closed doors friendly match against League One outfit Peterborough United.
The Stags started new signings Jordan Bowery in attack and Rollin Menayese in defence along with Farrend Rawson their recent capture from Forest Green as they took on a Posh side that were seventh and three points short of the automatic promotion places at the time last season was abandoned.
A good early start by the Stags at the RH Academy saw Bowery’s shot saved by Gyollai in the Peterborough goal before the away side tested Aidan Stone in the Stags net as Dembele was beaten to the ball by the young Mansfield goalkeeper.
With the teams playing two sixty minute games the first half hour finished 0-0 prior to a quick turnaround and drinks break and on 33 minutes Peterborough took the lead as Dembele converted a penalty after he was brought down by Aidan Walker.
Eisa went close for Peterborough on 47 minutes before George Boyd netted a second on 51 to take the first hour’s match the way of the Posh.
Both sides made eleven changes at the break with Marek Stech replacing Stone in goal with two other new signings Ollie Clarke and Jamie Reid also taking to the pitch for the Stags for the first time.
Young Tyrese Sinclair posing a handful supplied Mal Benning who fired wide on 73 before the left sider again tried his luck from range only for his speculative effort to be well blocked by a defender.
As the 90 minute mark hit, the teams again turned around and played out a further 30 minutes in hot conditions with Andy Cook heading a Benning corner over before Sinclair fired wide from outside the box.
As time closed out Taylor tried his luck from distance with a free kick for Peterborough only for it to sail over Stech’s goal and at the other end Reid shot blocked by sturn defenders doing their all to keep their clean sheet in tact.
In all a good workout for the four sets of players involved with a decent spell in the game for the Stags from the second XI in particular. Manager Graham Coughlan will be pleased his side are back in action and didn’t look too overwhelmed by a side that were challenging for the Championship last season.
