Nottingham Forest beat Premier League newcomers West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at St Georges Park yesterday thanks to a first club goal from new signing Lyle Taylor. It is the first win for the Reds who lost last week against Oldham Athletic 2-0 and in midweek against Port Vale 2-1 in a game played at Loughborough University.
With Stags in League Cup action and Notts County not playing best of the rest Basford United lost 1-0 against National League North opponents Alfreton Town with the winner coming from the penalty spot.
Carlton Town beat Nottingham Forest Academy 2-1 thanks to first half goals from Tom Maddison and Tyler Blake. The Millers were left to cling on towards the end when Dale Taylor pulled one back on 79 with the home side reduced to ten men.
Carlton’s Northern Premier League South East League counterparts Worksop Town were in action at Maltby Main with the Tigers losing 1-0. The goal coming on 50 minutes through Liam Preston.
It was a good day for Newark FC of the Midland League who beat Ilkeston 4-0 thanks to an Elliott King hat-trick after Kevin Baston gave the Tangerines the lead. Selston lost 3-2 at Belper United with goals from Jordan Black and Tom Laister for the Nottinghamshire club.
AFC Mansfield lost 1-0 at home to Swallownest FC in front of fans for the first time at Forest Town Arena whilst Retford FC lost 3-1 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.
Biggest winners of the day were Eastwood Community who hammered Woodthorpe Park Rangers 10-2 with two from Moore, Harrison and Hawkridge with one each for Westcarr, McGarry, Way and Upton whilst Rainworth Miners Welfare beat Sherwood Colliery 6-0 scoring three out of four penalties given to them in the match.
