Stags Beaten At Home

Mansfield Town 1-2 Exeter City (EFL League Two) 26.09.20

Mansfield Town were beaten for the first time in the league this season as Exeter City came to Field Mill and took all three points back down to the South West.

It was a disappointing outcome for a Stags side who started well in the match as Andy Cook went close lashing a shot into the side netting before Rollin Menayese tapped home on twenty minutes from a well worked set play that ended up with Ollie Clarke squaring for the big centre half to finish unmarked.

Exeter though levelled through a set play of their own when a right win in-swinging corner five minures before half time was missed by Stech in the Stags goal and hit Farrend Rawson before bouncing over the line.

The Stags had chances in the second half as Bowery headed over and Charsley shot straight at the keeper when he should have done better whilst Exeter produced the best bit of play of the game when Joel Randall exploded down the right to square to Williams who forced the best out of Stech who made a cracking save to his left.

That save however meant little as with fourteen minutes left another set play was finished off as a left wing corner from Exeter crossed deep to the back post was headed back in to the six yard box where Josh Key rose to looped in over Stech for the winner.

Manager Graham Coughlan disappointed with his sides performance stating after “When you go 1-0 up, and you’re not having a good day, you use your head, make better decisions and make sure yourman doesn’t have a good day either.”

“All-in-all, we didn’t play well today and we didn’t do enough to win the game. To lose by two goals from set pieces is bitterly disappointing with the size that we have.”

The Stags who are still to win this season are now eighteenth with two points from three games with a tricky trip to Newport next up on Saturday.

Stags: Stech, O’Keefe, Menayese, Rawson, Sweeney, Benning (McLaughlin 77), Charsley (Gordon 77), Clarke, Maris, Bowery (Maynard 64), Cook.
