Beeston Hockey Club’s mens first team won their first England Hockey League Premier Division match at the weekend beating University of Durham 3-1 at the Nottingham Hockey Centre.
The Bees took the lead in the fourth minute with an Adam Dixon goal converted after a penalty corner and five minutes later Ollie Willars made it 2-0 through the same routine.
Henry Croft netted a field goal on 34 minutes to give the home side a three goal advantage at the break and despite Josh Powell pulling one back in the second half it was three points to the Bees who now sit seventh in the eleven team division with a game in hand on all but two of the teams above them.
It was a scoreless weekend for the girls as the Bees 1stXI drew 0-0 with Birmingham University Ladies in the Womens Premier Division with Beeston like their male counterparts now sitting in seventh place in the table.
The club at the weekend made a special presentation to Andy Smith for his tireless commitment as secretary and director which he held both roles between 2010-2019 before stepping down last summer.
The presentation took place at half time of the mens match against Durham and the club state they “wish Andy all the best for the future and look forward to seeing him as much as his retirement allows”.
This weekend coming the Bees elite male team takes on Brooklands Manchester University at home on Sunday whilst the Ladies travel to Loughborough Students on Saturday.
