Nottingham Connects In England Squad

England Rugby Union have named a 32-man training squad ahead of Sunday’s fixture against the Barbarians at Twickenham and next weeks concluding six nations match in Rome with two players that have local connections involved.

Joe Heyes who is yet to make his England debut is a 21-year-old Prop for Leicester Tigers who only started playing rugby little over six years ago at the age of 14. Son of former Forest goalkeeper Darren, Joe who attended the Toothill School in Bingham as a youngster played in goal at Nottingham Forest Academy before joining Nottingham Moderns as an outside centre where his career in his new preferred code of football really took off.

Snapped up by Leicester Tigers as a teenager he made his debut against Wasps in 2018 and was part of the England squad that finished runners up in the 2018 World Rugby Under 20 Championships in France scoring a try in the final against the hosts.

With 17 caps for England U20 and 9 caps for the U18’s he’ll be looking to add a full cap to his collection under the Management of Eddie Jones this Autumn.

Joining Heyes in the England set up is former Nottingham loanee Will Stuart. The London born prop has three caps for England having made his debut for the national team in the early stages of the 2020 six nations which is finally scheduled to conclude on 31st October when England travel to Italy where a win could potentially seal the championship for the current league leaders.

Stuart, who is now at Bath played eight times for Nottingham between 2017-19 whilst on loan from Wasps and will hope to again be involved for the Quilter Cup match against the Barbars.

Facing England for the Barbarians will be a couple of familiar names to Green & White fans as Argentine centre Juan Pablo Socino who played for Nottingham 28 times during the 2013/14 season will line up beside locally born former Tigers and Nottingham winger Alex Lewington in the famous black and white hoops on Sunday.
