With many teams across the county left in limbo to what ‘lockdown’ means for them, tonight and Wednesday night could potentially be your final football fix for a month (at least) as government restrictions are set in place to close down ‘elite’ sport from Thursday for a minimum 28 days.
The East Midlands Counties League is one of those effected by the chaos that covid has brought with it and tonight and tomorrow may be your last chance to see your local sides in action so what better way to round things off than a run down of who’s up against who.
At the top of the table are Eastwood Community after taking 21 points from their last eight league matches winning seven and only losing one to Rainworth Miners Welfare. James Jepson’s side tonight head to Belper United having won their last three matches and face a side in fifth place of the league in a 7:30pm kick off at the Raygar Stadium across the border.
Ollerton Town who started the season in fine form having moved from the Northern Counties East League have lost just once in the league (to Eastwood) and are currently second. The Reds tonight host West Bridgford who recently parted company with Manager Chris Galley. In a 7:30pm kick off at the Fast Frame the home team will be hoping to close the two point gap on the league leaders whilst West Bridgford in 13th will be hoping to climb the table by causing an upset.
Another team struggling is Gedling Miners Welfare who sit 18th of the twenty team league having won one and drew one of their six league games. Gedling who are currently level on points with Radford and Graham St Prims below them travel to Barrow Town this evening who themselves in 14th are not out of trouble.
Finally tonight Teversal make the short trip to Shirebrook knowing a win will see them level on points with their Derbyshire rivals in 12th place. All games in the EMCL start with a 7:30pm kick off.
Tomorrow night will offer a final football fix before midnight lockdown as Hucknall Town host Kimberley Miners Welfare in an all Notts derby whilst Dunkirk make the trip to Leicestershire to face Ingles.
There is also action in the Northern Premier League tonight as Worksop travel to Kidsgrove for a 7:4pm kick off in Stoke whilst Retford travel to Rotherham to face Swallownest in the Northern Counties East League First Division with AFC Mansfield travelling to Sheffield were they’ll play Handsworth in the NCEL Premier Division tomorrow.
Finally a number of games in the Central Midlands League tonight involve Nottinghamshire clubs with Retford United hosting Newark Town in a tasty looking tie in the North Division whilst at the foot of the south Arnold Town take on Nottingham at Eagle Valley as league leaders Blidworth Welfare host Sherwood Colliery Reserves, Ashland Rovers take on Linby CW and Underwood Villa travel to Mansfield Hosiery Mills.
All matches in the CML are 7:45pm kick off. Please contact your local club for travel/entrance advice.
