Magpies Snatch Stoppage Time Victory

Chesterfield 2-3 Notts County (National League) 21.11.20

Notts County beat Chesterfield in a thrilling National League encounter at the Technique Stadium today after coming from behind late on to snatch an injury time win thanks to two stoppage time goals with the winner from hot-shot striker Kyle Wootton.

The Magpies took the lead on 22 minutes when Enzio Boldewijn prodded in following Ben Turner’s goalward header from a corner saved into his path, this after Cal Roberts had earlier hit a post.

The home side equalised though when Jonathan Smith finished from the edge of the area on 33 minutes to level the scores once again going into the break.

Chesterfield’s Tom Denton fired over on 65 a chance to give the Spirites the lead before Elisha Sam at the other end shot over himself as the rain poured down from the Derbyshire skies.

Slocombe in the Notts goal was called into action to save Weston’s shot before giant striker Tom Denton headed home on 78 to give the home side the lead.

As time ran down Notts pushed for a leveller and it was Ruben Rodrigues who looked to have snatched a point a minute into the 90th after nodding in from close range but not content with a share of the spoils, Kyle Wootton grabbed a remarkable winner as his header beat Addai to send the away bench into raptures.

A huge win for Notts, who move up to tenth in the table now just a point adrift of the playoffs after late drama, the Magpies next face Wealdstone at Meadow Lane.
