There were eight more races at Southwell today in the flat on the all weather as it was double delight for jockeys Silvestre Da Silva and Ben Curtis who rode to victory in exactly half of the behind closed doors encounters with Da Silva following up his early win on Sky Power to take the Class 3 Betway EBF Buccaneer Condition Stakes on Johnny Drama ahead of favourite Raymond Tusk.
The day started in Slowmo as Antony Brittain’s trained horse came home thanks to jockey Cam Hardie who pushed it well despite a challenge from Samovar in second.
In the second race Jack Garrity came home on The Retriever for Micky Hammond, a 10/3 joint favourite that led from 2 furlongs out before Da Silva won the first of his consecutive victories on the Richard Hannon trained Sky Power on its first outing at Southwell.
Da Silva followed up with an impressive win on Johnny Drama in what was a three horse race over 1m4f14y as he easily saw off Raymond Tusk and 50/1 shot Faramman on an Andrew Balding gelding that has now won on its last three outings.
The turn of Crosse Fire and Ben Curtis came next, a class five over 6 furlongs in the 13:40 leading from 3 furlongs to beat Capla Spirit into second and Curtis would win again on the Michael Appleby trained Spring Romance, that after Fieldsman came home for Mollie Phillips and AW Carroll.
In the last race of the day, Josephine Gordon ran a 14/1 shot called The Golden Cue to victory for trainer Steph Hollinshead. Joining the front in the final furlong it stormed over the line to beat St Anne’s on the nod.
