t was agonising defeat for Nottingham Wildcats at the weekend as they were beaten by just two points in the semi-final of the WBBL Cup against Sevenoaks Suns.
The Wildcats came agonisingly close to taking the match to over time but lost 69-67 against the current holders who will now play Leicester Riders in the final as they demolished Cardiff Met Archers 67-27 in the other semi-final.
Renee Busch of Sevenoaks and Chelsey Shumpert of the Wildcats lead the way on scoring with 23 points each with Nottingham’s field goal percentage well down on the home team in the end playing a huge part in finding out who reached the final.
A tough game to lose but still proof that Nottingham can mix it with the best. Attention now draws to league matters as the teams cup campaign after four matches reaches it’s conclusion.
Nottingham Hoods also suffered defeat over the weekend as they were well beaten by Derby Trailblazers at the Wildcats Arena. The side lost by forty points (56-96) but in a statement after said “Congratulations to Derby Trailblazers for their tough competition yesterday. We are privileged to play at the minute when many can’t. We are growing, we are improving, therefore we will move forwards”.
Next up for the Hoods is Bradford Dragons at home on Saturday whilst the Wildcats take on Cardiff in Wales on the same day.
