Notts County 1-0 Stockport County (National League) 15.12.20
Notts County moved back up to third place in the National League table last night after a hard-fought win over Stockport County at Meadow Lane.
Jakes Reeves first half goal was enough to give Neal Ardley’s side all three points and it was the Magpies midfielder who shown intent to get forward as early as the tenth minute when he shot from distance wide of the posts after receiving the ball from Jim O’Brien.
Stockport themselves had chances and John Rooney forced Sam Slocombe into a strong save on 23 minutes before Rodrigues went close just after the half hour and Reeves netted four minutes later with a cool finish after good work by Richard Brindley.
Wootton provided Notts attacking threat in the second half with a tame header well saved on 71 minutes the best of the third quarter chances as both sides competitively stuck bodies on the line.
As Stockport pressed for a leveller it was the County defence, marshalled superbly again by Turner and Rawlinson for a fourth clean sheet in five matches that stood strong, an impressive team performance that sends the Magpies into P3 just three points behind Sutton in second, with Morpeth Town next up in the FA Trophy on Saturday as concentration draws to a competition, they will be no doubt be one of the favourites to win.
