Reid Rewarded With Coaching Role

Nottingham Forest legend Andy Reid has been rewarded for his terrific work with the Reds youngsters to be given the permanent role as the sides under-23’s coach.

Reid took over the interim role following Chris Cohen leaving the Nigel Doughty Academy in September to become first-team coach at Luton Town and after a number of good results (the club have lost just once this season), Reid has now been given the permanent title as he looks to spearhead the development of Forest’s senior youngsters alongside the overseeing Academy Manager Gary Brazil.

Forest head the Professional Development League North this season, four points above Barnsley (who they face next tomorrow) with a game in hand, a competition they also won during the previous campaign, but the Reds haven’t played since the 21st December when they beat Crewe Alexandra U23 three-nil.

On his appointment, Reid said “I am delighted to have accepted the role. Everyone knows my affiliation with this club, so to now become head coach of the Under 23s is really special for me.

“We had a fantastic season last year and myself and all of the staff connected to the academy are determined to achieve parallel success this season and to see the continued development of these fantastic young players.

“It’s obviously an exciting time for the club with plans and ambitions to move the academy into the category one status. There’s a lot of work to be done in order to achieve this, but we are all determined to see it through and give our players the best possible chance of going on to have successful careers.”

In other Forest news, a new date has been arranged for the Sky Bet Championship trip to St Andrews after the Reds were supposed to play Coventry City this Saturday (23rd Jan at 3pm) but for reaching the next round of the FA Cup where they’ll play Swansea City instead.

Forest will now face Coventry on a revised date, Tuesday 2nd February with a 7pm Kick Off confirmed in Birmingham, the current temporary home of the Sky Blues.
