Trent Rockets have replaced Head Coach Stephen Fleming with Andy Flower as yesterdays 2021 Draft Day for the delayed ECB backed hundred ball cricket tournament took place with Timm van der Gugten and Samit Patel notable picks made by the East Midlands based franchise.
Fleming was set to Coach the Rockets in the competitions inaugural season last year but for covid and the former New Zealand batsmen has said “I’m really disappointed that I won’t be coach of the side this summer but ultimately family has to come first”.
Flower, a South African born former Zimbabwe International who coached England to Ashes victory in 2011 has more recently been in charge of Pakistani T20 side Multan Sultans, Caribbean Premier League outfit St Lucia Zouks and has assisted at Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.
Having already secured the likes of Joe Root, Dawid Malan, Rashid Khan, Alex Hales and D’arcy Short amongst others, the Rockets add Australian born Dutchman van der Gugten who plays his County Cricket with Glamorgan, as well as a familiar face in Samit Patel known very well to Nottinghamshire supporters.
The Women’s team have also been adding more pieces to their jigsaw with the likes of Sophie Molineux and Annabel Sutherland both of Australia, confirmed for 2021.
They will join fellow Ozzy team-mate Elyse Villani and England Internationals Katherine Brunt, Nat Sciver and Sarah Glenn amongst others, Sarah was also picked yesterday in the draft.
First game of the season is 24th July as the Rockets take on Southern Brave with both men’s and women’s games on the same day at Trent Bridge.
