Nottingham 3-52 Ealing Trailfinders (RFU Championship) 07.03.21
Nottingham Rugby were comprehensively beaten in their first match of the new league campaign as a side featuring ten new debutants fell well short against Ealing.
The visitors to Lady Bay had the luxury of several friendlies since the league’s restart programme and whilst Nottingham had only trained thus far, the start to the season with so many new faces against ready-settled opposition was perhaps too much too soon for a team not themselves ready enough for competitive action.
The game was taken away from the Green and Whites early doors with the away side ramping up a 26-3 lead by half time, by full time that points return doubled into a emphatic victory as Nottingham failed to lay a glove on their opponents.
Post game, Coach Neil Fowkes stated “We haven’t played rugby for 371 days but when you watch that game back you’ll see an immense amount of effort and hard work.”
“We’ve only been together as a group in contact for four weeks. We go in to a bye week now which gives us a chance to get together as a group and move forward. We’ve come out of the game with no injuries so it’s a pretty good place to be.”
Fowkes added “Were always going to be disappointed with the result, nobody likes losing but it’s a good step forward for this group for where we’re at.”
