Wildcats Win With Riders Next Up
Nottingham Wildcats beat Manchester Met Mystics today to go into Sunday’s match against Leicester Riders with fourth spot very much in sight.
The Wildcats go fifth and are now 7 & 6 for the WBBL Championship season after thirteen games played and the 72-61 win over Manchester takes them above their rivals in the Playoff picture with the Mystics currently 7 & 7 but Nottingham next face top of the table Leicester Riders who are a mightily impressive 12 & 1. A difficult task ahead.
Tonight’s performance at the Wildcats Arena was impressive, to win by eleven points in a game that the hosts were at one stage 5 down after the first quarter.
A second period rally of 20 points scored and just three conceded gave the Wildcats a 35-21 lead that they almost blew in a third Q that belonged to Manchester (resulting in a three point ball game at 50-47), a convincing fourth however took the game away from the visitors and Nottingham now go into the weekends clash against the leagues best team with a ‘W’ under their belt, which will surely be a good thing for confidence.
Stand outs included Chelsey Shumpert who scored 29 of the Wildcats points with 7 assists whilst Moa Lundqvist topped the rebounds with eight, also scoring 11 as Simone Costa weighed in with 15 on a good day at the office for Nottingham, next up Leicester and the derby in what will be a cracking tie but toughest of tests for Kenrick Liburd’s girls.
