Two More Rockets Head For Trent Bridge

Trent Rockets have added two more players to their women’s franchise as Michaela Kirk and Ellie Mitchell sign for the club ahead of the ECB’s hundred competition which starts in July.

Right hand all rounder Kirk has most recently played in South Africa for Northerns and made nine appearances in the sides title winning 2019 fifty over campaign.

Mitchell is a leg spinner who played for Western Storm in their 2019 Kia Super League title success with both players excited by their involvement in the inaugural competition and in particular, joining an East Midland based team that will also feature the likes of Sarah Taylor, Katherine Brunt and Elyse Villani amongst others.

Johannesburg born Kirk, who is still only 21, stated “I’m super excited to be able to play alongside some of the best players in the world and absorb as much knowledge as I can from them.”

Whilst 19-year-old Mitchell said “Women’s cricket has grown so quickly in the past few years, and there are so many amazing female players who have the capability to perform at the same levels as the men, so it’s going to be really good for people to be able to see that.

“The whole competition will be so much bigger than we’ve been used to, so it will be great for everyone’s development, and I’m really excited to get going.”

As white ball cricket adds its final touches towards the season start in a couple of months time, the red ball game is just around the corner as Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club kick off their County Championship season tomorrow as they host Durham at Trent Bridge.

The fourteen man squad announced for the fixture is as follows: Steven Mullaney (c), Jake Ball, Joe Clarke, Ben Compton, Ben Duckett, Luke Fletcher, Haseeb Hameed, Brett Hutton, Lyndon James, Tom Moores, Dane Paterson, Liam Patterson-White, Ben Slater, Peter Trego.

First ball will be bowled at 11am tomorrow morning and we’ll have action streamed via the Trent Bridge website and YouTube available to watch live over each of the four days of play.
