Double Defeat For Panthers

Nottingham Panthers 4-8 Sheffield Steelers (Elite Series) 10.04.21

Nottingham Panthers 1-3 Coventry Blaze (Elite Series) 11.04.21

Not a great weekend for Nottingham Panthers who were beaten badly on Saturday against their biggest rivals Sheffield Steelers before crashing to Coventry on Sunday afternoon in the Elite Series at the Motorpoint Arena.

It was a disastrous 1st period against Sheffield which left Nottingham with a mountain to climb, Eberle had the Steelers 1-0 up after 36 seconds before Olden doubled the Yorkshiremen’s advantage less than a minute later.

After 2.10 it was 3-0 Steelers when Hewitt scored and although Nottingham did wrestle back some sort of comeback, for ten minutes at least, when Olden grabbed his second on 12:14 it was pretty much curtains, the capitulation continued with one more before the 1st period buzzer, Beaudry on 17:18 making it 5-0 after the first twenty minutes were up.

Thankfully, the next twenty wasn’t so bad as Nottingham quickly responded with a goal for Cangelosi. Waller did make it six for Sheffield before a powerplay goal by Domingue again reduced the deficit. Liam Kirk netting towards the end of the period to make it 7-2 going into the third.

In fairness, the Panthers did win the last period but by then the game was up, Domingue grabbed his second before Cangelosi ditto, Eberle however rounded things off for Sheffield and an 8-4 win to go top of the table.

Next day Coventry inflicted more damage on Panthers confidence, a powerplay first period goal by Bryhnisveen before a second from Tristan Keck had Nottingham chasing from early doors.

Boivin did score in the 2nd period to make sure it would be a tense third but Edvardsen scored during another powerplay to ensure it was Coventry victorious and Nottingham rooted to the foot of the table in the Elite Series with four losses from five games played.
