Carlton Town 3-2 Gedling Miners Welfare (Friendly) 13.04.21
A youthful Carlton Town resumed their covid-hit season with a 3-2 friendly win against Gedling Miners Welfare at Stoke Lane on Tuesday night.
The Millers side was largely made up of development players from the Academy but they impressed against a side that featured no fewer than five ex-Carlton first team players, including former player of the year Josh Thornton.
Jack Gibson opened the scoring after just 42 seconds, winning possession inside the penalty area and calmly slotting home.
Welfare recovered and levelled on the half hour when one of those ex-Millers, Tony Law, steered home at the back post after an excellent run and cross by another former Miller, Paolo Piliero.
Carlton went back in front on the hour. Kamani Wilson flicked the ball to Gibson who rounded the Welfare keeper before Wilson himself tapped home.
Eight minutes later it was 3-1. Gibson once again created it, knocking on a Jack Steggles clearance into the path of Ellis Tongue who fired home from the right with the help of a deflection.
Carlton made multiple substitutions and Gedling looked dangerous in the closing minutes of the game. Piliero drew a stunning save from Steggles who somehow saved his header from point-blank range before Kayden Ellis fired home from just inside the area with the final kick of the match.
