Mansfield Ladies Through In Trophy

Andi Bell and her Mansfield Town Ladies side have qualified for the knockout stages of the East Midlands Regional Women’s League Trevor Clifton Trophy, and will now contest the League Cup, following a third successive win at the weekend.

In winning 2-0, at their One Call Stadium home, against Notts County Development, who finish second, Bell’s side would score through Ellie Marshall and Natasha Leech, the Stagettes topped their group with a 100% record, ten goals scored, and none conceded, County’s Development finished in second place.

The other game in Group A would see Arnold Eagles win 2-1 at home to Sherwood Women, the former finishing in third thanks to this success and with goals coming via Demi-Leigh Crofts and Amy Gauvrit with Bethany Curzon replying for the visitors, they now contest the League Plate.

Group B was topped by Derby County Academy Women after they were held to a goalless draw away to Notts County, who finish in second place, three points behind; Loughborough Students Women clung on to third place, on goal difference, after they lost 2-1 away to Rise Park Ladies, Katie Platts and Jessica Waplington with the goals, Elizabeth White in response.

The remaining Nottinghamshire-based side, St. Joseph’s Rockware of Worksop Women, finished the group stage with a goal difference of minus fourteen, from their three matches, losing the last one, 4-2, away to Chesterfield Women, Sky Hughes and Ellie Sims with the goals.

Standout results from elsewhere in the tournament saw Rotherham United win 6-2 at home to Oughtibridge War Memorial, Sleaford Town saw off visitors Lincoln Moorlands-Railway 5-0, and 5-1 victories for both Beaumont Park and Oadby & Wigston, at home to Leicester Ladies and Thrapston Town respectively.

At Rotherham, the goals would come from a Natalie Shaw hat-trick, and one apiece from Rachel Hale, Helen Lynsky and Amy Pollock, whilst Sleaford Town hit five without reply when home to Lincoln Moorland-Railway with Verity Dixon, Jenny Hollingworth, Paige Wright, and subs Amy Bird and Morgan Blackledge all scoring.

With the knockout stage beginning next week, the top two sides in each group contest the League Cup, whilst the bottom two are going for the League Plate.

That being said, in the former, Notts County Women have been drawn away to Chesterfield Women in the Second Round of the League Cup, with byes for Notts County Development, and the undefeated Mansfield Town.

Meanwhile, in the League Plate, there’s a home tie for SJR Worksop against Lincoln Moorlands-Railway in the Second Round, and byes for that of Arnold Eagles, Sherwood Women, and Rise Park Ladies, the quarter-finals, for both, will take place a week on Sunday.
