Mansfield Town have signed former Notts County defender Elliott Hewitt on a two-year deal after the Welshman left Grimsby Town following two seasons at Blundell Park.
A versatile player, Hewitt can play across the back four and in midfield and is the first signing made by Nigel Clough post-season as he looks to build a promotion chasing team for the campaign ahead.
Having played over 100 times for Notts, Hewitt left Meadow Lane in 2019 to join Grimsby and featured over 60 times for the Mariners although was not able to help them towards League Two safety this season as the North Lincs based club propped up the 92, sitting bottom of the football league.
A Wales U21 international, Hewitt started out with Macclesfield Town before moving to Ipswich Town with spells on loan at Colchester and Gillingham before signing for Notts in 2015.
On signing the player, his new Manager Nigel Clough was quick to praise the 26-year-old saying “Elliott is a good player with good experience at this level. He is one that can cover several positions.
“He knows the league, knows a few positions, is a good age and has good experience, so it was a bit of a no-brainer for us.”
Hewitt himself stated on putting pen to paper “I’m buzzing to get it done early on. I can relax, enjoy my summer and look forward to the season ahead.”
On his influence in signing for Mansfield, Hewitt said “The manager was a big one. I had other options but as soon as I met the manager here, it was something I wanted to get over the line.”
