Notts Lose Last League Game

Bromley 1-0 Notts County (National League) 29.05.21

Notts County were beaten in their final National League match of the campaign in Greater London as their hosts also reached the playoffs on Saturday to conclude a six team competition which gets under way this weekend.

Finishing fifth in the league with 70 points from 42 games played, 14 points below champions Sutton United, Notts will now play Chesterfield at Meadow Lane on Saturday whilst Bromley face a trip north to Hartlepool with the winners of each tie playing Torquay United and Stockport County respectively for a place in the final at Ashton Gate.

Against Bromley it was a strong County line up and a strong start at Hayes Lane with Wootton hitting the bar on three minutes as good an opportunity as Notts would get all game.

Ellis then went close before Wootton curled another attempt over with Rodrigues trying his luck from range with an off-target effort, all big chances coming in the opening 25 minutes for the away side.

Notts continued to dominate a first half where they couldn’t take advantage in gaining a deserved lead, and the second half continued in the same vein with Rodrigues instrumental as Wootton continued in search of finding the net.

That net was finally rippled but not by a Notts player, on 65 Williamson struck and it was suddenly the side in control behind on the day.

As Notts searched for an equaliser Bromley had their best spell and hit the bar on 75 minutes with Slocombe forced into action soon after.

Notts huffed late on but couldn’t force the home sides door down as they grew in confidence to take the last spot in the playoffs, who knows the two teams could meet again should they win their next matches and semi-finals.

Good news is that Saturdays match, a 4pm kick off live on BT Sports, will be played in front of home supporters with season ticket holders able to purchase tickets from today. All those wanting to attend are urged to visit the Nott County website here for more information.
