Nottingham Open Ready To Go
The Viking Open Nottingham begins tomorrow (Saturday 5th June 2021) with WTA Qualifying ahead of Sunday’s main draw and ATP Challenger Qualifying with action every day until Sunday 13th June.
Some huge names will be involved, including the likes of Johanna Konta and Venus Williams but Andy Murray sadly won’t be featuring, after pulling out instead, to focus on getting fit for Queens which starts on June 12th ahead of Wimbledon.
Instead, British players Dan Evans, Ray Peniston and Jay Clarke who have all received wildcards for the ATP event will feature, whilst three young upcoming homegrown girls will also get to be involved in the WTA version, Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart and Fran Jones will all be playing at the Nottingham Tennis Centre this upcoming week ahead.
Top seed Evans who is also the current holder having beat Evgeny Donskoy in the 2019 final, will headline the 25th men’s event with American second seed Frances Tiafoe, Andreas Seppi of Italy and Kevin Anderson of South Africa amongst the favourites whilst in the ladies event, Brit Johanna Konta will be top seed ahead of Alison Riske (2) of USA and Spain’s Paula Badosa (3).
Britain’s Heather Watson is also involved with nine top fifty ranked women’s players in attendance, all hoping to match Caroline Garcia’s efforts in 2019 to take home the trophy.
A WTA doubles event will also take place with the likes of Xu Yifan and Zhang Shuai of China the 55th best pairing in the world, top seed for the event.
Tickets are still available via the LTA website but act fast as there’s only now a limited supply.
