Contracts Agreed As Reeves Leaves

Notts County have agreed to extend the contracts of Connell Rawlinson and Sam Slocombe whilst Michael Doyle has accepted a player/coaching role but midfielder Jake Reeves has left for pastures new.

28-year-old Reeves played 41 times for Notts last season scoring five goals including a couple of stunners in his year-spell at Meadow Lane following the move from Bradford City last summer.

A quality performer with football league experience, Reeves has left for Stevenage of League Two with Head Coach Ian Burchnall stating “We always suspected Jake would have ambitions of returning to the EFL as soon as possible and we have been planning for this eventuality for some time.

“While he will of course be difficult to replace, we have been assessing several players who we feel could step into his shoes and have identified a number of exciting prospects. These things take time but we’re confident we’ll go into next season with a balanced and strong midfield.”

Goalkeeper Slocombe signed for Notts in 2019 and like Reeves has been a top performer since joining the Magpies with Burchnall saying “Retaining Sam is a huge positive for us. Not only is he a tremendous goalkeeper but he’s a top professional who helps drive high standards every day.”

Slocombe signs a two year deal which will keep him at the club until he’s 35 whilst defender Connell Rawlinson also receives a two year deal following some fantastic performances of late with the man that picks him delighted to have secured the Welshman’s signature for the foreseeable, saying “I’m really pleased. Connell’s been a big part of our defensive unit for a while now. He’s a good leader, very professional and a great character to have about.”

Finally the club are delighted to have agreed terms to have Michael Doyle involved in a coaching capacity. The former one-time Republic of Ireland International will continue to fulfil his playing duties whilst helping out with the backroom staff, his experience vital in helping his fellow-team-mates improve on the pitch.

Burchnall stating of the Irishman’s decision to accept a permanent role “Michael is a passionate football person who I have no doubt will go on to have a very successful coaching career.”

“I’m excited to give him this opportunity and look forward to working closely with him to deliver what we both hope will be a successful and enjoyable 2021-22 season.”
