Beeston Hockey Club have announced the appointment of James Sordillo as the new Head Coach of their Women’s programme ahead of the upcoming, 2021-22 campaign.
Having covered the role during the off-season, Sordillo takes a promotion from the Women’s 1st XI assistant coach’s post, which he previously held.
Vastly experienced, Sordillo was part of the backroom team with the Bees who lifted the National Cup in September last year, the first title in the clubs’ history.
Before joining Beeston, Sordillo previously held roles at Leicester HC, Trojans HC, alongside assisting with video analysis at both the junior finals, and the EHCC, in 2018, for Surbiton.
Speaking to beestonhockeyclub.com, Sordillo said; “I’m really grateful to the club for the opportunity.
“I recognise the appointment comes at a crucial time and not in easy circumstances after Colin (Clarke) has done such an incredible job, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge.
“There is a lot of talent in the 1st XI group and I’m looking forward to us working together to build on the legacy of the last few years.
“I have been really enjoying the work with the 2nd XI, we were having loads of fun and building towards some pretty ambitious goals.
“I’m really excited to see how they get on.”
In joining an experienced management team with the club, one which has been impressed with what he has already shown the club since his arrival.
The Women’s First Team manager, Zoe Hainsworth, added: “James is a true Beeston Bee – we’ve got an exciting season ahead of us and I’m very pleased that James will be joining the team in a head coach role this season.”
In addition the Sordillo becoming the 1st XI Head Coach, the Bees announced the addition of two, new players, to the Women’s squad for the upcoming season, which begins in September.
Charlotte Harmer and Bea Bell are the new additions, the former being a defensive midfielder who arrives from Division One North outfit, Olton and West Warwickshire, whilst the latter, a fullback, is a former England U16s player and joins from Belgian side Arlon HC.
Both players will be at Nottingham Trent University when the next, academic year begins, and have already been involved in the clubs’ preseason planning sessions, Sordillo adding of the duo coming in: “We’re really pleased to be welcoming Charlotte and Bea to the club.
“Both come highly recommended and are really talented players.
“I’m pleased to continue the club’s tradition of attracting talented young players so and supporting them in their development.
“Having spent time speaking to both players, I’m really excited to see what they can bring to the team.”
The first Women’s Premier Division fixture of the new season takes place at the Nottingham Hockey Centre, on Saturday 18 September, against Holcombe; all home games will be streamed live via Bee TV.
