Caesars Go Three Straight
It’s three from three for the unbeaten Nottingham Caesars following another, impressive outing, this time at home (at the Stute, Ilkeston Rugby Club) against the Northampton Knights, an early rematch from the opening day.
It was to be a game that, although the Caesars did well throughout, neither side really capitalised on anything until the final quarter, the two sides going into that level pegging at 6-6.
Coach Warner’s Caesars side opened their account in the first quarter as Tight End, Hunt, crosses following a short pass from McGovern, the visitors meanwhile, had to wait until the closing stages of the first half before levelling proceedings.
Both sides battled away throughout the third quarter, neither taking a firm a firm hold of the game meaning that the final quarter would be a shoot-out for the win, and so it proved, for the Caesars at least.
And what a gung-ho final quarter it turned out to be, some twenty-seven points being registered.
A great burst of power running from the hosts’ Running Back, John Holmes, on the back of a Caesars 1st & Goal, re-opened the advantage, with the two points being added as well, however, the Knights were soon proving a thorn, bringing themselves within a point of the unbeaten Notts side, with a 45 yard rush.
As the tie wore on, it was to be a matter of time before Running Back, Karim Hamdi, got himself involved, he and Wide Receiver, Rory Woolley, amassing big gains into a 1st & Goal position, the former of the two, (nicknamed Wheels), crossed with a 7 yard rush himself, adding the two himself to make the score 21-12 going into the closing minutes.
There was still time for more as well, the Caesars holding on at the end.
Fortunately the Knights missed the two point mark having got themselves within three following a return kick to score, the Caesars holding on for the win, a 21-18 score.
Having had a bye week last weekend, and having moved to a 3-0 record already this campaign, Coach Warner’s Caesars now see two weeks downtime before they host the Lincolnshire Bombers on August 8, a game they’ll be hoping will see them move to 4-0.
